Tips while you wait for help

What to do while you wait for SERVPRO to arrive for water loss?
When water damage happens after a bad storm or plumbing issue, you could know about it a few minutes or days after it starts. Here are some tips to help you while you wait for our crews to reach your property:
- Shut off the water source if possible or contact a qualified professional to do so.
- Turn off circuit breakers for wet areas of the building, if access to the power distribution panel is safe from potential electrical shock. Once SERVPRO arrives they will determine if it is safe to turn the power back on.
- Move any paintings, art objects, computers, documents and other materials that are valuable or sensitive to moisture to a safe place
- Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting. This help prevent any further water damage.
- If you have any fans use them! Have the airflow blowing on the wet material, this helps the water from spreading quickly.
- Do not leave books, newspapers, magazines or other colored items on wet carpets or floors as they may cause staining.
- Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting.
- Do not turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet
- To avoid injuries do not enter rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water. The ceiling drywall has a potential to fall.
